With the help of thousands and the hard work of a few, Audie finally gets his stamp!-May 2000
Now, I don't have to explain this patch to anybody...do I? (Please note, this is the correct way to wear or display it.)
Dashing portrait as featured on the back of Sue Gossett's wonderful book "The Films and Career of Audie Murphy"
An often seen Hollywood publicity still
Scene from "To Hell and Back". This is just after Murph was promoted. The squad looks to the new Corporal for leadership.
Young Staff Sergeant Murphy. Note the hastily sewn on rank and unit patch. (From the private collection of Stan Smith)
"Corporal" rank, the first for a noncommissioned officer. Those who earn this first set of "hard stripes" are recognized for their potential leadership abilities and proven initiative and enthusiasm.
"Sergeant" rank. The next in line has the know-how to get the job done and the motivation to strive for more responsibility.
'Staff Sergeant" The kid gloves are off now. You've got all the additional duties you can handle, the hours are longer than you ever imagined, and you learn to juggle career concerns with family needs. This is also the last enlisted rank Audie earned before he was offered a commision to 2nd Lieutenant.

Some of the Color Guard from Audie Days 2000.
A still from the vaults of Universal Studios.
Another still from his "Cowboy" pictures. (Note our hero wears a white hat.)
Between takes on location in Arizona.
here's something you don't see too often; Audie's certificate...from the private collection of Stan Smith.
This magnificent Commemorative Rifle was created/commissioned as a tribute to Audie. It was generously donated to the Audie Murphy Collection, hosted by the American Cotton Museum. The occasion was Veteran's Day 2000. The benefactor was Audie's longtime friend, Feller Goff. (Special thanks to the Honorable Judge Joe Bobbitt for allowing me a sneak preview to take this photo.)
This is a front view of the medallion awarded when I was inducted into the SGT Audie Murphy Club in April 1994.
Today's Grunt has mechanized armored vehicles to take them all over the place, in all kinds of weather.....years ago, they only had their boots!
Not too sure if I care for this colorized photo of Audie. It's a publicity still to promote "To Hell and Back".
Three of the NCO volunteers from our chapter that made it to the 1999 Audie Days celebration. This flag raising ceremony was held at the U.S. Highway 69 Memorial Park. The Site was created by and is maintained by Curly & Audrey Combs, of Celeste, Texas.
An article from the New York Times. (Special thanks to the American Cotton Museum for allowing my the opportunity to take this photo.)
Adrien Witkofski and Vince Leibovitz of the American Cotton Museum - June 1998
The church in Floyd, Texas. Audie and his family used to live near Floyd for a while, and probably attended services here.
The memorial marker in the town square of Farmersville, Texas.
Some spectators view the display that formerly graced the outer lobby of the TRADOC SGT Audie Murphy Club Induction Ceremony.
